The McMaster RFID Applications Lab (MRAL) is the only initiative of its kind in Canada. It provides a hub for applications-oriented RFID research and development between academia and multiple industries, promoting investigation in technology, social policy, commercialization and business process. The initiative is being led by McMaster University and supported by EPCglobal Canada, Hewlett-Packard, IPICO, RF Code, Deloitte, Sun Microsystems, LRNI, and Ontario Centres of Excellence. MRAL is located at the MaMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton. Four centres at McMaster University are involved in the initiative: the Xerox Centre for Engineering Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the Dofasco Centre for Engineering and Public Policy, the McMaster Centre for Emerging Device Technologies, and the McMaster eBusiness Research Centre.

Ohio University’s Center for Automatic Identification is the nation's first university- based center devoted solely to the subject matter of automatic identification. Established in 1988, the mission of the center is to serve as a focal point for research and education related to the field of automatic data capture. Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC), which includes technologies such as bar coding, magnetic stripe, radio frequency identification, direct part marking and voice data entry are being applied within numerous business environments to increase data accuracy and improve productivity. Mandates such as those from the Department of Defense, Wal-Mart and Target are further increasing awareness and the need for education in AIDC technologies. As an unbiased, vendor-neutral entity, the Center is in a position to objectively educate AIDC users, conduct un-biased AIDC research or review equipment for end-users.

The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC) is the largest technology trade association in Texas. It is dedicated to the promotion of the high tech industry in the Dallas/Fort Worth region. WINMEC (or Wireless Internet for Mobile Enterprise Consortium) is a UCLA-based university-industry collaborative activity whose participants develop technologies and business related research and educational issues of relevance to the wireless and mobile industries.
