RF Code Announces OPC Integration Module

Enables Process Control, Manufacturing and Facilities Automation Systems to Use RF Code-Generated Environmental Monitoring and Asset Data

AUSTIN, TX  (July 20, 2010) —RF Code, Inc. today announced an OPC integration module that makes it easy for a wide-range of  industrial automation and control systems to take advantage of the environmental monitoring and asset tracking data captured by RF Code active, wire-free sensors, tags and readers. Broadly referred to as SCADA systems, these solutions typically leverage the OPC standard, a specification that, according to the OPC Foundation, allows "open connectivity in industrial automation and enterprise systems that support industry."

Among other things, the OPC standard outlines data communications between data providers (sensors, controls, and more) and consuming OPC applications.  Leveraging this standard, the RF Code integration module makes it possible to publish information from:

  • RF Code's active environmental sensors about temperature, humidity, door status, fluid detection, and information about dry contact devices to a SCADA system
  • RF Code's active asset tags, which generate asset location information of key physical assets to a SCADA system

"You can’t manage what you can't measure," said RF Code's Chris Gaskins, vice president, Product Development. "That's why industrial applications, from process control to building automation, require real-time information about environmental factors and operating assets. Controlling humidity levels for a manufacturing process or optimizing facility HVAC systems means having that temperature, humidity and other data needed to make that process or facility run most efficiently.  Our active RFID technology provides the critical real-time information."

About the Integration Module

The RF Code OPC Server for Zone Manager is a standalone integration application that installs on a Windows-based system. (Zone Manager is a real-time location engine for use with RF Code’s asset tracking and wire-free environmental monitoring solutions.) All the environmental monitoring and asset information the Zone Manager server publishes is updated in real time so consuming OPC applications have the most up-to-date data possible.
