RF Code Announces Wire-Free Air Pressure Sensor
Eliminating Wires Means Deployment Flexibility to Monitor Air Pressure Anywhere in the Data Center
AUSTIN, TX (March 29, 2011) — At Data Center World in Las Vegas today, RF Code (Booth #409) announced a new wire-free air pressure sensor that reports differential air pressure readings. Air pressure is a key monitoring metric used to optimize air flow and provide insights into the overall thermal characteristics in a data center.
The solution is now in use at a number of leading organizations, including a major air transportation provider, a large IT vendor and a key financial organization.
RF Code’s wire-free sensor gives data center operators the ability to monitor changes in air pressure in order to determine optimal cooling strategies, including proper perforated (perf) tile placement. The sensor features specifications as precise as expensive HVAC hand-held pressure monitors while eliminating the need to manually troubleshoot suspected air flow-related problems. Data from the sensor flows into RF Code’s Sensor Manager software, which manages the information and provides trending, reporting and alerting capabilities. In addition, other leading software platforms can consume the air flow data because the RF Code Sensor Manager solution has a number of off-the-shelf integration modules and is built on open APIs that make custom integration easy.
Proper air flow means that cool air is moving efficiently, cooling hot-running equipment so it functions as intended. Many factors contribute to the hampering of efficient air movement in a data center, all of which affect the cost of cooling. Such factors include: high equipment density; the layout of the data center itself (from the plenum to the rack aisle configuration); CRAC failure; insufficient flow of cold air around rack banks, as well as obstructions below the raised floor.
“Energy and cooling issues are hot topics for data centers,” said Chris Gaskins, RF Code Vice President, Product Development, RF Code. “Our wire-free approach provides a simple, affordable, but elegant, way to meet such daunting challenges. Best practices monitoring instrumentation doesn’t have to be expensive. It needs to be precise, affordable and easily deployed.”
The R160 Air Pressure Sensor is the newest addition to RF Code’s wire-free environmental and power monitoring solutions. These enable rapid and affordable monitoring of all key data center environmental and rack-level power conditions. Such monitoring gives data center and facilities managers the information they need to run an optimized facility, without incurring the high costs of installing and maintaining wired solutions.
