El Paso County 911 District Uses RF Code’s Wire-Free Environmental Monitoring Solution

Texas’ 5th Largest 911 District Cuts Time Spent Managing Cooling/Heating

AUSTIN, Texas (August 4, 2009) -- RF Code, Inc., provider of “wire-free” adaptive asset management solutions that reduce operating and capital expenses, announced that the El Paso County 911 District has implemented RF Code’s real time, wire-free environmental monitoring solution.

According to Ray Perez, Assistant Director of the El Paso County 911 District, the environmental monitoring solution “took me from reactive to proactive mode,” in managing the temperature of the 911 facility he oversees.

The El Paso County 911 District, located in El Paso, Texas, provides enhanced 9-1-1 service for all of El Paso County serving more than 700,000 citizens. Each month, the 911 call-takers process more than 45,000 emergency calls, providing the vital communications link between citizens and emergency response agencies.

Mr. Perez oversees the half-a-city-block facility that houses the District’s 911 personnel, including call takers and dispatchers in the 911 Call Center. Not only is Mr. Perez interested in maintaining an acceptable comfort level for 911 staff located throughout the building, he needs to ensure that equipment, including the facility’s UPS system, is sufficiently cooled, so they function properly. However, the unique configuration of the facility and the duct structure provide challenges for maintaining proper heating and cooling.

What he needed was instant environmental information dynamic enough to give him a real time look at what was occurring, when it was happening. For example, after one of his rooftop air conditioners went out, his UPS system was in jeopardy. Luckily, the problem was identified early enough to avoid an issue.

After frustration with his “after the fact” monitoring system that could only generate historic data on what had happened temperature wise, he turned to RF Code after someone familiar with Mr. Perez’ challenges recommended the solution.

After installing RF Code temperature and humidity sensors throughout strategic spots in the facility and then monitoring in real time the heating and cooling dynamics throughout the building, Mr. Perez says not only is he more productive, the call center staffers are not distracted by temperature fluctuations. “I can now deal with an emerging issue before it escalates into a heating or cooling problem that affects Call Center personnel.” Along with the District’s email and Blackberry® server, he can be alerted to anywhere when a temperature fluctuation occurs.
