Tech Trends: The Importance of Monitoring in Hot-Aisle Containment

Thoughts from Datacenter Dynamics Enterprise While exhibiting at the recent DatacenterDynamics Enterprise event in New York City, I had the opportunity to attend a thought-provoking session from Sabey Data Centers: Technology innovation in the data center - improving PUE and WUE and the Mobile Commissioning Assistant. While the VP of Operations was highlighting the different designs and builds of their data centers, he also addressed the different cooling models that each facility used. It was interesting to learn how the various data centers dealt with cooling by using different techniques, each unique to the facility’s layout and surrounding environment. It led me to think about the link between cooling and RF Code’s work in data center optimization, and how no cooling model can be complete without a variety of monitoring solutions.

Reporting from Data Centre World at the Olympia Hall in London this week with my EMEA sales and technical directors. The first day of the event was well attended with various levels of enterprise customers present, including those from banking and finance sectors as well as others in retail and heavy industry. Additionally, most of the major players that provide hardware, software and services in the data center space have exhibit stands where there was a predominate focus on the power and cooling side of the equation.  This was highlighted by a couple of companies that brought in their containerized power solutions and placed them in the center of the event.

As many of you know, I spent a couple of days at the 7x24 Exchange Thought Leadership event in Orlando, FL. Orlando, as you probably know, is home to children’s make believe with attractions including Disney World and Universal Studios. I spent yesterday at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, a kind of adult land of make believe. Turning Stone, while very nice, is not Las Vegas; it has fewer restaurants, lower stakes, and fewer headliners.
